The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Zone-7 has arrested two alleged members of the Madari gang for reportedly posing as ‘bhuvas’ of Mataji and duping a temple devotee in Vatva, Ahmedabad.
The accused have been identified as Pawannath Thakornath Chauhan, 26, and Rameshnath alias Hapudi Natwarnath Chauhan, 25. According to police, the incident occurred around three months ago when the two allegedly approached a woman in Vatva on the pretext of asking for directions.
During the conversation, they allegedly gained her confidence by claiming to be associated with Mataji and posing as religious figures. Police said the accused then allegedly told the woman that she would receive Mataji’s blessings and persuaded her to remove the gold chain she was wearing.
They allegedly took away a portion of the chain and returned the remaining part to her before fleeing. The accused reportedly told the woman that Mataji would favour her. A case was subsequently registered at Vatva police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
While patrolling in the Zone-7 area, an LCB team allegedly received information about members of the Madari gang involved in the Vatva case. Acting on the tip-off, police traced and detained Pawannath and Rameshnath. During questioning, police allegedly recovered genuine gold jewellery linked to the Vatva offence.
Further investigation also revealed that Pawannath was allegedly wanted in connection with a case registered at Panigate police station in Vadodara city. Police said Pawannath had previously been booked in cases registered at Vejalpur police station and Kapadvanj Rural police station. Rameshnath has a previous case registered at Krishnanagar police station.
