A major theft has been reported at the historic Bageshwari Temple in Bongaigaon, Assam, one of the most prominent and revered religious sites in Lower Assam.
According to reports, thieves looted the temple of the deity’s jewellery, cash, and several other valuables. The thieves allegedly first disconnected the CCTV camera system on the temple premises during the night before entering the temple and carrying out the theft.
According to temple authorities, valuables including jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 7-8 lakh were stolen. In addition, the thieves reportedly took away a historical crown dating back to the British era from the temple.
After receiving information about the incident, police and administrative officials reached the spot and launched an investigation. The temple authorities have urged the police and administration to identify and arrest those involved in the theft at the earliest.
The incident at the historic and revered religious site has triggered widespread concern in the area, while devotees have expressed anger and dissatisfaction over the theft. Police are conducting searches to apprehend those allegedly involved.
