The SIT is likely to re-audit the Ram Temple Trust’s accounts for the last five years as part of its widening probe into the alleged donation embezzlement case.
The proposed re-audit is expected to cover construction expenses as well as jewellery, gold, silver, and other offerings received by the Trust. The team also visited the Ram Temple on July 3 and spoke with several people as it deepens its scrutiny of the records.
The probe has already moved into a more serious phase. Key suspects have been questioned, and Trust general secretary Champat Rai, trustee Anil Mishra, and Gopal Rao have also been examined. Both Champat Rai and Anil Mishra have resigned, and the Trust is expected to decide on them at its July 6 meeting.
The investigation is now focused not only on the alleged diversion of donations, but also on the broader handling of temple funds over five years.
